United Way of Greater Chattanooga and radio partner PULSE NEWS 95.3 are looking for 1,000 people to get engaged with early childhood education.  You can TAKE ACTION by filling in the form below. 

United Way will work to recruit 1,000 VOLUNTEERS for Early Childhood Education between June 20 and August 23, 2009. The results of this 9-week volunteer drive will be announced at the Chattanooga Market’s LIVE UNITED DAY on Sunday, August 23.

WHY? 

Because early chilldhood education is fundamental to a strong community and advancing the common good.  And it takes a whole community working together to be sure our children will get the learning skills they will need to be successful in school, and in life! 

What can you do?

• Volunteer at an agency focused on early childhood issues:  There are many great agencies (and educational institutions) in the area that need minds and muscle to accomplish their children's work. United Way's Volunteer Center can keep you up-to-date with the latest opportunities.
• Advocate for an early childhood issue:  Do you believe in Pre-K or other issues that you think need more attention from government?  Get involved!  Write your council, congress member or senator, or shoot off a letter to the editor.  Whevever you make your voice heard for early education, you're engaged and involved.
• Read to your children:  Do you have a child in your life under 5?  Then READ to that child!  It's the best way to be sure they arrive at kindergarten with the skills they need for success in school and life. United Way's Project Ready for School can provide free books every month and other services for parents and caregivers.
