New Volunteer Opportunities

These are just a few of the volunteer opportunities available through United Way's Volunteer Center. Check our website frequently at www.LiveUnitedChattanooga.org/Volunteer for more featured opportunities. You can also call Windy Brooks at the Center at 423-752-0316 to learn more about volunteering in our area.

Samaritan Center: Volunteers are needed to help sort and organize clothes at the Thrift Shop.  Shifts are available mornings or afternoons Monday through Thursday. 

Siskin Children Institute: Volunteers are needed to help with the downtown Early Learning Center School Carnival.  Have fun while helping serve pre-school children and their parents.  Duties will include running game booths and providing directions.

United Way’s Volunteer Center:

  • Volunteers are needed to help inventory donated items. This is a great opportunity for a small group of 6 to 8 people.
  • Help with “Read Across Chattanooga” activities at Hamilton Place Mall on Tuesday (February 28th) through Friday (March 2) from 5:45pm to 7:15pm.  Volunteer duties will include set-up, clean-up and helping with children’s activities related to a particular Dr. Seuss book. 
  • Volunteers are needed on Saturday, March 3rd from 10:45 am to 1:30pm to help with the “Dr. Seuss Birthday Celebration”.   Duties include helping with Imagination Library Book sign-ups, serving the Dr. Seuss birthday cookie cake and assisting with other activities.

HubFest 2012: Volunteers are needed for to be help with set-up, concessions, parking and assist with break-down.  HubFest will be held at Heritage Park (Jenkins Rd. just off E. Brainerd Rd) on Saturday, May 12, 2012 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Shifts are 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Foster Grandparents Program: Volunteers fifty-five (55) years of age or older, are needed to serve twenty hours per week tutoring special-needs children. Foster Grandparents serve in one of 39 non-profit agencies, such as day care centers, mentoring sites, schools, hospitals, special education departments and centers, and Head Start centers.

Signal Centers:

  • Employment Specialist Volunteer: Assist with answering phones, filing.  Volunteer will gain valuable experience working along with the Client Employment Specialist.
  • Marketing & Agency Development Volunteer: Volunteer needed to assist with special events, fundraising, web & graphic design and creating new marketing tools.
  • Adult Day Service Volunteer: Work one on one with clients while assisting the Adult Day Service Director with crafts and games.
  • Children’s Program Volunteer: Work with children of all abilities, assist teachers in the classroom, and staff with playground supervision.

Chattanooga Area Food Bank: Volunteers needed to help prepare food boxes for those in need.  Must be at least 16 years old without an adult, with an adult the volunteer must be at least 12 years old. 

Creative Discovery Museum: Administrative volunteer needed to with museum staff to prep materials for exhibits, special events, and outreach lessons.  Get 'behind the scenes' and help with a wide variety of tasks in Education and Development. Flexible times and days are available as well as the potential to earn a free family membership!
